The Holidays Is Almost Here

It's Monday the fourth and we all have just need two more weeks until the holidays. Everyone looked normal, happy to be with their friends playing on the park, I guess everyone was happy that it was almost the holidays especially the teachers. Everyone's report will be going home and soon cultural groups will be starting and the speech finalists who have learned their speech off-by-heart will be performing in front of the entire school. I just can't wait until the holidays.

Athletics

It's Tuesday. I'm ready to go to school. It's athletics day,  the day when all the fast runners of every class in Ruapotaka school run their fastest and try come first, second and third. As I got to school I saw the athletics running tracks mowed on the grass ready for the afternoon. Once it was noon most of the classes sat under the big tree while the other children were waiting to run like crazy.

πŸ“½ 🎞 Maniakalani Film Festival πŸ“½ 🎞

Yesterday on Wednesday 8th of November Ruapotaka school went to the Manaiakalani Film Festival for 2017 in Sylvia Park! Manaiakalani is a yearly event where all schools like Point England  and Glenbrae and other schools make a short film to be screened at  Sylvia Park Hoyts Cinema. Room 12's movie was called Rugby Values, it had very helpful tips. Ruapotaka was on their very best behavior, we were the best school there in my opinion.

πŸ“– Tests πŸ“–

Today 26 October Room 12 all had tests. It was the same test we all did at the start of the year. We all arranged our desks in rows so we don't look at each others' answers. We did a maths test first witch required us to do addition. There were two rows for us to answer and we all had two minutes to finish both rows. At the end we wrote our names at the top and flipped it over. Subtraction was next followed by multiplication and then division. Once the maths test were finished we went on to spelling this required the teacher to dictate the words and this was the final test for the day.

Last Term For 2017

October the 16th, we are starting off with a new term. Once the loud morning bell rang for everyone to go to their fitness, the teachers in the senior block welcomed all of us back to school. We all lined up outside Room eleven. Then Mrs Golder told us all that it was Chinese language week. She walked out of Room twelve with a poster in her hands that says " ZΓ ijiΓ n" that means ''goodbye''. Afterwards we all went to do our fitness. This term we have cultural groups, tests and speeches. When it was almost time to go home Mrs Golder said "ZΓ ijiΓ n" to us all, then the bell rang. It's going to be a busy term.

Colour Combination

Can colours change? Yes they can if two or more colours combine with each other it will make a new colour. For example: when blue and red are mixed together it will make the colour purple and purple and blue when mixed together will make green. The reason for the colours changing is because the spinning wheel creates an optical illusion.

Orienteering

On Tuesday it was orienteering with Mr Leon. We were all in Room 11 and we were all sorted into four different teams. We lined up and listened to what we had to do. We all memorized the symbols on the map. When Mr Leon and Mrs Golder said the symbol's name we had to find the symbol. If we chose incorrectly we  had to go to the back of the line. Whoever gets the most points out of the two teams wins.

After that we had to choose a card that was flipped over and Mrs Golder held it and you had to find what it's name was and this time if you got it wrong you had to try again until you got it right. and the last game we did was a game of snap. When Mrs Golder said the symbol on the map,  whoever picked the right card got the card as well as a point.

We have one last lesson left with Mr Leon.

Back At Tech For 2017

Wednesday Term 3 2017 and the year 7s and 8s go to Tech. When Mrs Tuipolotu arrived we grabbed out a frying pan and a big pot and waited for our instructions. We received a bowl from her filled with 4 chickens. She wanted one person from each group to bring the frying pan to make the sauce. She put in curry powder, black pepper, brown sugar, Indian tomato and herbs. As we mixed the sauce the chickens were boiling in the big pot on the stove. Then Mrs Tuipolotu gave us rice on a plate. When the chickens were finished we put it in the sauce and mixed it. Once that was done we put the chickens and some sauce on the rice. Then it was ready to eat.

πŸ““Back To School & Back To LearnπŸ““

Two weeks are finally over, term three is just starting and we're halfway through the year. Everyone will be working very hard this year trying to become Better Than Before. This year there will be lots of things to learn and study.

Everyone was excited  to be back at school. There were lots of blue which is the color of our uniform. At assembly Mrs Vickers asked the school. who read books in the holidays.

Half of the school stood up. It was sad to see how many people there were still sitting because that meant they didn't even read one book in the holidays. Reading can help you learn.

Skipping

Thursday 24 May 2017

Rooms 12 and 11 combined together to do skipping outside on the court. We all spread out and found a space where we wouldn't bump into each other when we skipped. We all warmed up doing simple easy skipping skills.

We skipped backwards, forwards and side to side. When that was all done, we all split up into teams. Each team had to come up with ways to work together. Every class in the school is doing a skipping display.

Everyone then went back to where they were standing. Then we all start to skip again as a class. If you stopped or became tired you had to sit on the ground.

Today I thought it was going to be like every other day but then once when every one was drinking their milk photos were being taken. Why? To me this was really suspicious and weird what was going on I thought photo day was over. When I was taking the empty milk cartons back to the Multi Purpose Room I saw Rooms 1, 6 and also Room 7 taking photos out side their Room drinking milk. What is going on today. Then someone told me it was National Milk Day. Oh so that is why everyone is taking photos oh well. Wait whats National Milk Day!?

πŸ˜€ I'm In The Mood When Cooking Food πŸ˜€

Wow, a time to cook food just like the year 8's did.
When we arrived at tech, we all got off the bus and walked to our new place to do some cooking for the first time. I was really nervous because I have never ever cooked a thing in my entire life! We had to wait outside for a really long time. Seconds past by until Mrs Tuipolotu came and welcomed us all inside. She introduced herself to us all. Once we went inside and sat down she talked to us about the food equipment and where it's supposed to be placed, she also told us we'll be making delicious milk shake.

Mrs Tuipolotu told us all to get out a bowl and a hand whisk out of the cupboard and right after that she lead us all to a room and told us to put on an apron that was hanging up on the hooks. It was really hard to tie them up behind us so we had to have our partner help us. When our aprons were on we all washed our hands and went back to our tables.

Mrs Tuipolotu grabbed a box of vanilla ice cream, whipped cream and chocolate syrup. She put a chunk of ice cream into our bowls and told us to whisk it until it was smooth. After that we put it all into separate cups. When it was all in the cup she put the chocolate syrup in our cups then she topped it with whipped cream with more chocolate syrup on top.

Then we all ate  it up πŸ‘

Back To School

After two weeks everyone's holiday was over and it was time to go back to school. Last term we all had our Anzac service and not many parents came to watch, but some did, so that was good.

Term 2, 1st May 2017 at Ruapotaka School. Today is the first day for term two. Everyone was happy playing and being at school with their friends once again. After morning tea all year 7s went to Room 2 for a talk about Immunization at 11:30 am. We watched a video of children at another school. The video showed children playing soccer and the characters saying that one of the goalies looked very tired or ill and the soccer ball was a sickness and each team tried to keep the ball away from the goal.

A boy that was videoing the soccer was scared of getting an injection and thought it was going to sting and hurt. After they went to go see the nurse and talked about getting an injection they then went to go see what other children thought about getting an injection. The child was more confident about getting  his injection and wanted it straight away, but the nurse said the he needed his parent's permission to have it.

When the video ended all the year sevens went back to class and the year eights went to Room Two for their turn for the Immunization talk.

The Everyday Theatre

Today 3 March Rooms 12 & 11 had two visitors.  They were game masters well not really it was just pretending. There were games and role plays.  It was really fun and every one enjoyed

Room 12 was in class when the bell was about to ring but then came inside.  Two girls with game masters on their shirt came to our room and after fitness room 11 went into our room and then they introduced themselves. Their  names were Vera and Kaitlin and they were doing a play.  Every time we got a bonus point we all got six and we needed 10 to unlock the game . Then Vera was a dad and she wore a beanie and Kaitlin was a mother and she was wearing a scarf. and the main characters were the dad named Dave, mum named Maria, a sad son named T, a friend of T Jack and Bryan. Then toward  the end of the play,  we all did a quiz.  We had four lives and if we won we earned six bonus points.   We already had six points so if we won we will get 12 bonus points and be game winners and ...... we won! Then at the very end Vera and Kaitlin showed us all a special handshake and gave us a special badge called Game Masters.
EVERY BODY HAS HOPES AND DREAMS!

How to make a housing joint out of wood

Image result for constructing a housing jointTo make a joint out of wood you start with a 320mm piece of timber wood and cut a piece off the side of the wood and make it the right size for another piece of wood to fit in. If the cut is too big then you would have to start again but if it is too small and can't fit in you can cut a bit more off and make it slightly fit in so it would look like this. That is how you make a housing joint. Watch this video to find out more about housing joints.

Tabloids

On February the 15th was Tabloids. The entire school was split up in their houses. Whero with Meana as leader, Kowhai with Saluselo and Katrina as leaders, Kakariki with Minzin as leader, and Kikorangi with  Mika as leader. We all lined up behind our coloured flags and then we followed the teachers to start off our activity. It was very hot and everyone would have been sweating and starting to stink.  Every  group went to the teachers with a note and the teacher would give every team a point. The points go up to 5 and the scores are at the office. It was a can do positive day.
